DENVER -
As is becoming a Monday tradition, some thoughts about the NFL weekend that was before delving into the Broncos/Raiders matchup.
Contrary to popular belief, Brett Favre is still good: Really good. His last second game winning heave to Greg Lewis was nothing short of spectacular. Turns out Lewis was only in the game because Percy Harvin had run out of steam. This will go down as one of Favre's ultimate moments, like watching Joe Montana outduel John Elway (ack!) when #16 was playing for the Chiefs---uniform doesn't look right, but the moment was still amazing.
The NFL powerhouse landscape continues to change. Granted, the Colts and Giants are still high powered, but the Patriots are sliding. So are the Steelers, Titans, Jaguars, Dolphins, Cowboys, and Chargers.
The Redskins are just awful. Paging Mike Shanahan!
On to the Broncos. They continue to be a head scratcher. Not because they're good, but because I really don't know HOW good. They did what all quality teams must do: beat inferior opponents. That said, the Browns and Raiders will be messing up two of the first five picks in next years draft, like they always do.
I do know this: The Broncos can play with, and beat anybody in this league. I didn't believe that a month and a half ago, but I do now. Regardless of not knowing HOW good they are, it's really not a matter of concern this early in the season. All that matters is they are 3-0, and heading in the right direction much faster than anyone (myself included) imagined.
Broncomaniacs, I recommend a big fat steak dinner, followed by a big fat stogie and a snifter of brandy: Don't dwell too much on ifs and coulds and maybes---just relax, chow down, puff and sip away, and enjoy another well fought and hard earned W.
