DENVER -
Broncos Should Be Wary of trip to D.C. Denver is 6-2. Washington is 2-6. Washington was supposed to be 6-2. Denver was supposed to be 2-6.
In the NFL, there are no certainities....well, with the exception of Chad Ocho Cinco being fined almost every week.
On Sunday, the Broncos----it appears have a bit of a respite after sufferinfg two tough losses. After crushing defeats against AFC North heavyweights Baltimore and Pittsburgh, their next opponent is a team with a hated owner, a head coach who longer calls his own plays----even though he made his reputation on....you guessed it, calling plays, a playcaller who less than a month ago was retired and out of football, a quarterback who seemingly loses confidence every week, and a fan base full of venom.
Other than that, the Redskins are in great shape.
In reality, even though the tide has turned against them, they do have one redeeming factor: their "D". The Redskins have the eight ranked defense in the NFL. That could spell trouble for a Broncos team who has trouble moving theball in recent weeks. In their two losses, they have scored a combined 17 points----and only 10 have been courtesy of the Denver offense.
In fact, Kyle Orton and crew haven't generated anything since the opening possession of the Monday night loss to Pittsburgh----over three quarters of littke or no production.
A stat like that facing a defense like this could be trouble.
The key to a Denver victory appears to be getting off to a quick start and a sizable early lead. It has been shown time and again in the NFL that teams languishing at the bottom of the standings tend to give up if things don't go their way early. However, give a team that is desperate for a victory a reason to hang around----i.e., a tight game heading into the fourth quarter and suddenly their eyes start to widen with the hopes of a rare victory staring before them.
Botton line: the broncos haven't won a game in 26 days, getting to 27 may not be as hard as you think.
