Tanaka's Take: NFL Week 2 Rant
DENVER - This blog, less a coherent grammatical presentation, and more a random culling together of thoughts after the Broncos home opening win over the Browns, and other Week 2 observations. Readers be warned!

First thought: Hey Cleveland--you forgot to take your weather back with you to OH-10. Good grief…50 degrees and rainy?!

Outside of their ridiculous 2-minute drill against the Bills (14 points), the once formidable Patriots offense has scored a total of 22 points in two games…looks to me like they miss their former offensive coordinator.

The Jaguars and Titans are fanciful picks that won't amount to much this season. Let's face it: David Garrard and Kerry Collins aren't who we thought they were….or maybe they ARE.

The Bengals go into Green Bay and beat the Packers…wow. Looks like Week 1's win gained some value for the Broncos.

The 49ers MUST be renamed the San Francisco 50ers, in honor of head coach Mike Singletary (he wore #50 for the Bears back in the day). They roughed up the Seahawks pretty good. I'll suspend opinion on Seattle after the online clubbing I took for calling them 'average' in the preseason.

Now on to the Broncos, with a brief prologue on one of the great coaches of all time:

Joe Gibbs I (pre-comeback in the early 2000's), is and always will be in my estimation, one of the Top 7 coaches of all-time….yet, if possible for a Hall of Famer, always seems to fly under the radar of great sideline patrollers. He won three Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks---amazing. He also was one of THE BEST halftime adjustment-makers in the game.

Josh McDaniels definitely has some Joe Gibbs in him. He's shown that he can mold a quarterback to fit his system, and he made a great adjustment against the Browns at the half.

Before intermission, Kyle Orton threw the ball 27 times, completing only 11 passes for 120 yards. The Broncos ran the ball 13 times for 53 yards. In the second half, Orton threw only 10 passes, but completed eight, for 143 yards. Less passes thrown, higher completion percentage, more yards…Wow! The Broncos ran the ball 24 (24!!) times in the second half for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Impressive.

McDaniels is showing coaching acumen that none of the other Bellichick disciples have. Granted, we've only played two games….but the Broncos are ALERADY exceeding expectations.

Final note: the 3-4 is fitting this team to a T. Only 13 points allowed through two games. Broncos fans, things are looking up!
