A rollover crash blocked the lanes of westbound 6th Avenue near Federal Blvd. in Denver Monday morning. (November 16, 2009)
DENVER - The weekend winter storm has left Colorado, but temperatures Monday morning were very cold statewide. Denver was in the teens before sunrise.
Many roads were icy, so commuters were urged to allow extra time for their morning drive.
The roads turned icy as the sun went down Sunday. A six-car pileup closed Interstate-225 at Yosemite at 5:30 p.m.
Two Colorado state troopers were injured in that crash. Authorities on the scene said the troopers were out of their vehicles helping motorists in a prior accident when a vehicle hit one of the patrol cars. One trooper was pinned between his car and a restraining wall. The other was injured in the slide.
Both officers were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Snowfall totals measured at least 7 inches in Denver, 13.5 inches in Evergreen, 7 inches in Boulder, 8 inches in Louisville, 8.4" in Black Hawk, 10.5" in Westminster, 10" in Erie, and 11" in Conifer. (view official snowfall measurements)
Interstate 70 and 25 were mostly cleared of snow through metro Denver by mid-afternoon Sunday. However, snow-packed, icy spots existed and contributed to numerous accidents, most of which were minor.
As highway accidents mounted as a result of the weather Saturday night, the Colorado State Patrol closed I-70 in both directions between Floyd Hill and Morrison. It reopened it early Sunday.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said its entire fleet of snowplows was deployed, but plow drivers had a difficult time keeping up with the steady overnight snowfall.
Runways at Denver International Airport remained open throughout the storm and only a handful of delays and cancelations were reported. (upload your snow photos)
