WINDSOR -
A Windsor family is mourning this holiday weekend after their teenage son was killed in a car accident yesterday afternoon in Fort Collins. According to police, 16-year Mitchell Agnew was a passenger in the car his older brother Michael was driving.
The Toyota Corolla they were in was traveling westbound on Harmony Road when Michael made a left turn in front of on-coming traffic.
A Jeep Cherokee SUV was heading eastbound and collided with the passenger side of the car killing Mitchell. Michael along with two other people in the SUV were taken to the hospital with minor to serious injuries. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash and are still investigating.
His family says they were devastated when they received the call from authorities and are trying their best to stay strong. "We gotta live for Mitchell and what he stood for as a family because I'm sure he would want that," said his mother Jackie Agnew.
Mitchell was going into his junior year at Fossil Ridge High School. He was a popular kid who loved life and loved his family.
"He was just a unique kid," said his uncle Jason Haldiman. Jason and Mitchell were not only family but also close friends. Jason says Mitchell was an avid skateboarder, hockey player and loved seeking new adventures. "I'm just going to miss Mitchell," said Haldiman. "He was always described as the life of the party, the funny one in the family. He was polite, courteous, and kind-hearted. "
He was the one who always kept us laughing," said his mother. Mitchell's funeral will be held in Loveland on Monday.
