Street caves in at water main break; pothole slows Interstate commute
A big water main break and street cave-in in Lone Tree caused problems in one neighborhood early Tuesday.

Officials say a 12-inch water main broke at Timberline Road and Lodgepole Trail, and the road buckled. It's not too far from Yosemite Street and Lincoln Avenue, and it serves as the main route to Eagle Ridge Elementary School.

A resident noticed the whole in the road at about 4:00 a.m. Members of the Lone Tree Police Department and South Metro Fire Rescue responded to the scene to block it off and handle any immediate problems.

Some resident were without water service Tuesday morning. There was flooding in the area and a lot of mud slid onto the road.

It looked like it could take crews a couple of days to fix the break and repair the road.

A similar problem happened in another part of metro Denver, but it caused major backups on eastbound Interstate 270.

A big pothole opened near the junction with Interstate 70 and it closed I-270 down to one lane. The drive across Interstate 270 through Commerce City was miserable.

Repair crews needed the rain to stop, so the work area could dry out a little before they began repairs. There were reports it might take a couple of days to fix.
