iPhone App gives you free background checks
Have you ever wanted to run a background check on someone you just met? A potential date? baby sitter? A future employee? Now there's a mobile application out there that gives you the power to do background checks on anyone for free.

The Internet is a fast and convenient way to communicate but in the anonymous world of the web you never really know who you are dealing with. BeenVerified is an application that does what all of those online background check sites do but this time, it can send it instantly to your mobile device.

Sonny Jackson of the Denver Police Department says the site isn't doing anything illegal.

"All of that information is being pulled from public records that are open records."

BeenVerified is a free download app and a website that could be running a background check on you right now by using your name or even just your email address. It allows you to background check your contacts on your iPhone with just one click.

"If I got hit on by a guy and asked to go home with a guy, I'd use it," says Laura Schroeder.

Some people we talked to say the app is a good way to check up one people you know nothing about.

"My girls are 19 now, twin girls and I keep my eye on them all the time," says Andrew Martinez.

"See what the names of boyfriends are. Yeah I probably would use it," he adds.

The app draws out a person's criminal records, property records, information about a person's family and even scours the web for social network connections and online photos.

"I think that's a major infringement on people's privacy. I think that's too much information. That shouldn't be available," Jeff Gallaher says.

BeenVerified says it aims to eliminate fraud anonymity on the Internet by verifying user's identity and background credentials. Not only is the application free to download but it allows you to do three background checks a week for free. But not everyone sees the convenience in the app.

"There is just a lot of information that's available and this takes it a step further to make it that much more accessible," says Gallaher.

The app isn't all free access. After your 3 queries a week are up, you're prompted to sign up for a BeenVerified account and pay to get unlimited access. Currently, that will cost you about $8 a month.
