Crews were cleaning up Friday after two freight trains derailed in two different parts of Colorado.
Near Limon: Thirty-four cars of a 105-car Union Pacific Railroad coal train have derailed in northeast Colorado.
Railroad spokesman Mark Davis says no injuries were reported after the eastbound train cars went off the track around 2:40 p.m. Thursday, about eight miles west of Limon. It's unknown why the cars derailed.
Davis says crews would work through the night to remove derailed cars and repair the track. He says the line may reopen Friday.
The train started in Utah and was headed to a utility in Tennessee.
The line where the accident happened carries traffic from Denver to Kansas City. Davis says a detour is available through Cheyenne, Wyo., and Nebraska.
Near Longmont: Five cars of a 100-car BNSF freight train sent off the tracks just north of Longmont near US Highway 287 and Vermillion road.
The cars that jumped the track weren't carrying anything dangerous... they contained flour and paper.
The derailment happened at about 5:20 p.m. Thursday. The train was heading southbound from Laurel, Montana to Denver, according to a BNSF spokesman who spoke to the Longmont Times-Call.
The 31st car of the train had one wheel off the track, while the three cars behind it came off completely. Two of them came to a stop in a west-pointing "V", the Times-Call reported. BNSF said it happened on lightly used tracks.
