Denver family mourning after boy hit, killed by car on Mother's Day
DENVER - The parents of the toddler killed in a tragic Mother's Day accident are speaking out.

On Sunday, two-year-old Edgar Bernal darted out into the street as the family was gathering in the front yard of the home on Clay Street. Denver Police say he was hit and killed by a passing car.

The driver of the car did stop and police say she will probably not face any charges.

"Two year old life, taken away, just like that, in a few seconds," an emotional Xochitl Castelam, Edgar's mother, told us through a translator.

"All of a sudden, he took off running. The truck was coming really fast and just hit him and ran over his little body."

Castelam described Edgar as loving and playful, active and mischievous.

Other family members want drivers in the neighborhood to slow down.

"I always look both ways because those cars drive by so fast. There are so many kids out on bikes and scooters. It's just dangerous," neighbor Priscilla Reyes said.
