Snow causes major traffic delays all over metro Denver
There wasn't a lot of snow accumulation, but it was just enough to turn the morning commute into one giant mess Wednesday.

Roads were slick enough to cause a large number of minor crashes, and make it difficult for drivers to get around. A 7-car crash on westbound Interstate 70 near Highway 58 in Wheat Ridge forced police to close the two left lanes of the highway at around 8:30a.m.

There were reports the drive from Denver to Boulder on U.S. Highway 36 took nearly two hours. Broomfield went on accident alert.

An arctic air mass brought snow to the Front Range during the overnight hours. The cold temperatures will stick around in the long term forecast.

Expect 1-2" on the ground in Denver for the morning commute, any additional snowfall will be light through 9am. Due to the rapid drop in temperatures last night, you can count on icy, snow-covered roads, so allow extra time when you drive Wednesday.

The SW foothills and areas of Douglas and Elbert counties will see slightly higher amounts of snow with a range of 2-4 inches. Another round of light snow is forecast for Wed. afternoon with additional accumulations of 1-2 inches along the Front Range and plains.

The snow will last through early Thursday morning before finally coming to an end, especially on the south sides of town.

COLD TEMPS!
Daytime highs will struggle to get out of the 20s both Wednesday and Thursday with overnight lows falling into the single digits statewide. We'll have plenty of sunshine back on Friday, but temperatures will be stuck in the mid 30s. Then over the upcoming weekend more snow and cold looks to keep a winter chill in the air.
