The suspect lived with his father in Hudson, northeast of Denver.

The father says his son was struggling financially and sometimes heard voices... but he still doesn't understand why he did what police say he did.

"I have no idea why he went out there. I heard they think he went to school, he never went to school out there. I have no idea why he went 50 miles out of his way to do something like this. He knows nobody there," Bruco War Eagle Eastwood said.

The elder Eastwood says the rifle used in the shooting was his... and that his son took it without his permission.

The shooting suspect has an arrest record dating back to 1996, and it includes three incidents in which he was accused of threatening someone with a weapon. Court documents also show Eastwood has been arrested for five assault charges and a domestic violence charge.
