Meanwhile, supporters of former House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, Bennet's opponent on stage and in the race for the party's U.S. Senate nomination, stayed behind trading uncertain glances.
In a debate in which both candidates did little to distinguish themselves, the biggest difference may have been the way they reacted at the end.
Romanoff, who tried to draw Bennet out by bashing a broken system in Washington, got nothing more than Bennet's complete agreement that the Senate, specifically, is indeed broken.
And if Romanoff can't show any obvious difference between himself and Bennet, he's unlikely to win a race when he's already fighting an uphill battle against a well-funded incumbent backed by the Democratic establishment.
