LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. -
A 4-mile stretch of the Poudre River in northern Colorado was closed Wednesday to recreational use after an asphalt spill from a truck that crashed into the river.
Authorities say about 500 gallons of hot asphalt got into the river Tuesday when the tanker truck lost control and crashed.
The Colorado State Patrol says the driver, 52-year-old Kenneth Gale of Rawlins, Wyo., was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Booms were set up after spill to capture the asphalt. The city of Fort Collins closed down a pipeline about two miles downstream that feeds a water treatment plant.
The U.S. Forest Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Larimer County Sheriff's Department and other agencies were meeting Wednesday to determine what to do next.
