DENVER - The Colorado State Parks Board Thursday approved plans to fence in the large off-leash dog parks at Cherry Creek and Chatfield State Parks.
"What we are looking to do is improve the area," said Scott Roush, the Park Manager at Chatfield State Park.
But a group of protesters disagreed. Several showed up with their dogs and signs outside the Red Lion Hotel in Aurora where the meeting was held.
"I'm just appalled they want to fence in these areas," said Jinnie Trabulsi.
Under the plan, the Cherry Creek off-leash park would be reduced from 125 acres to 107 acres, and fenced in.
The park manager says there are erosion problems, and the dogs were having conflicts with the horses at the nearby stable. The fence would separate the groups, but change the horse trails.
The Chatfield off-leash park will now be 69 acres, and the sport dog training area will be 19 acres.
