Fort Collins Brewery using the sun to make beer
The New Belgium Brewery in Fort Collins will get a little help making beer from the sun.

The company plans to install the largest privately owned solar panel system in the state on top of it's bottling plant. On a sunny day the 200 kilowatt system would be able to power the bottling plant for eight hours, although the electricity could be used throughout the facility.

The system will be installed by Namaste Solar and will look similar to their project on top of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science that was featured when President Obama visited in February.

New Belgium got a grant to help with the $1,000,000 price tag, and managers say this is part of a larger plan to reduce emissions at the brewery and in the city.

"We feel someone has to lead, and the more people who are able to lead we can bring down the price of the technology, and make it more affordable for everyone," said Jenn Orgolini, the Sustainability Director.
