Denver Idol winner Mykal Hudson |
DENVER—
With a great voice and style all his own, Mykal Hudson thinks he's got what it takes to be the next American Idol. Hudson, from Denver, won FOX 31's "Denver Idol" contest Tuesday, after nearly 20,000 votes were cast online and over the phone.Hudson received 48% of the vote to beat out fellow finalists Jaleesa McIntosh of Denver and Hunter Hill of Greeley. The three were selected by a panel of local judges following Monday's Denver Idol auditions at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
Hudson sang "Alright" by John Legend.
"I think I'm bringing the complete package," Hudson told anchor Kellie MacMullan during an appearance on News on the Deuce Tuesday, prior to the end of voting. "The look. The sound. Something fresh. Something new. I think Denver's ready for it. I think the world's ready for it."
The next stop is a bigger stage: American Idol. Hudson wins a guaranteed audition in front of the American Idol producers when the show visits Denver next week.
The general public is encouraged to register and line up early. However, due to the large number of singers expected, not all will get a chance to audition.
