DENVER - The Adams County Coroner conducted an autopsy following the death of a 16-year-old girl Monday in Commerce City. The coroner's office said Tuesday the results did not reveal an immediated cause or manner of death.

Final results are pending histology and toxicology tests.

The coroner's office also says it was unable to obtain a suitable confirmed identity of the teenaged girl, so it is using DNA testing for positive identification. That could take a couple of weeks to complets.

A suspect is in custody for the death of the Adams County teen Monday morning. At 6 a.m. the Adams County Sheriff's Office responded to a call for medical assistance at the Crestline Hotel in the 7300 block of highway 85 north of Commerce City.

Police found an unresponsive female teenager in the parking lot of a motel. The teen was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where whe was pronounced dead.

Late Monday afternoon the Adams County Sheriff's Office announced it had arrested Joseph Daniel Mascarenas, 18, of New Mexico, in connection with the murder.

Mascarenas is being held at the Adams County Detention Facility for investigation of Second Degree Murder.

His bond has been set at $50,000.00.
