BOULDER, Colo. - One local band is making waves across the country but it's not just because of their music. The band Morsoul out of Boulder also beats the environmental drum.

Like most bands, they're trying to get that big break, hoping to become a household name, but their passions don't just stop with the music.

"It's called a Veggie Bus," says Dan Menchey, the front man and drummer for Morsoul. "It's basically a school bus that's been converted to run on vegetable oil as well as diesel," he adds.

Most wouldn't be caught dead in this 25 year-old heap, which still has signs of its storied past.

"This thing use to be painted orange with a big 0-1 on it. Classy I know, don't know why we got rid of that," laughs Dan.

As he continues to show us the exterior of the bus Dan points out, "This is where you fill up with vegetable oil. There's a big eighty-gallon tank under here." Dan and his band are taking their veggie bus on the road, along with their green message, touring colleges across the country who help promote youth environmental stewardship through programs like POWER SHIFT and POWER VOTE.

"Yeah, we're going to be doing it all year if possible, setting up shows at as many colleges as possible," says Dan.

Although it lacks several comforts of the modern world like air conditioning, the band doesn't mind spending days at a time on the bus.

"If we can bring attention to other people to make a change in our country I think that's a good role to play. This is a great way to express something I have felt for a while, but not in a lyrical sense."

Morsoul says they not only save money on diesel, but hotel rooms by touring via their veggie bus. They plan on touring throughout the summer. And yes, if you're wondering, they don't mind smelling like french fries.
