Four Aurora public libraries to close by Dec. 31
AURORA - Four of Aurora's seven public libraries will close at the year's end because the city's 2010 budget only includes funding for three libraries. Mission Viejo, Hoffman Heights, Iliff Square and Chambers Plaza libraries are scheduled to be shuttered on December 31.

A ballot question defeated in the November election would have created a separate funding mechanism for the libraries via a Library General Improvement District.

Despite the reductions in staff and operations, the Aurora Public Library will continue to provide service to customers at the remaining three libraries.

Effective Jan. 1, the new library hours are as follows:

Aurora Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway
Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday, 12:30 to 6 p.m.; closed Friday

Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, 9898 E. Colfax Ave.
Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed Sunday, Monday and Friday

Tallyn's Reach Library, 23911 E. Arapahoe Road
Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Thursday, 1 to 9 p.m.; closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday

All story times and computer classes and most other programming, except that which is funded entirely by the Friends of the Aurora Public Library and coordinated by community volunteers, will be cancelled indefinitely. Any programs that remain can be found on the library's Web site.

Some meeting room spaces and amenities will be reduced or eliminated due to the closures. Visit the library's Web site for more details. For more information, call 303-739-6640 or visit auroralibrary.org.
