Summer Road Travel |
DENVER—
It's expected to be a busy holiday weekend, according to AAA. The American Automobile Association is expecting 2.6 million people to travel in the mountain states.Arizona, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming and Colorado fall into the region where people will be traveling at least fifty miles away from home.
"Hiking, biking, fishing, visiting state and national parks, those are all things you can do within a days drive," said Wave Dreher, AAA spokesperson.
The July 4th holiday weekend is typically the busiest time of year for auto travel. 81 percent of expected trips in the mountain states will be by automobile.
Colorado's gas prices are also lower than the national average. AAA says this is one incentive for people to travel on the roads this holiday.
"It's cheaper than flying and it's right here in our backyard from Denver and it's just a great way to enjoy the mountains without having to get on an airplane," said Toni Kboudi of Denver.
Nationwide, AAA is expecting a slight decline in overall travel but with lower hotel rates and airline prices compared to last year this time, they still predict good numbers for travel this holiday weekend.
