LONE TREE, Colo. - A FOX31 Investigation has uncovered new allegations against the doctor accused of stabbing a nurse at Sky Ridge Medical Center.
A lawsuit filed against Dr. Grady Holder alleges that he so badly botched a double vasectomy that the patient, Christopher DeGuire, required another procedure.
"The defendant (Holder) made numerous incisions into plaintiff's scrotum and cauterized significant amounts of tissue around plaintiff's testicles before announcing 'he couldn't do it' and aborting the procedure," the suit alleges.
The suit says that Holder was either drunk or suffering the effects of alcoholism at the time of the botched surgery and arrived for the appointment wearing a Hawaiian shirt and cowboy boots.
"It's certainly a solid case from a negligence stand point," said Attorney Kevin Mahoney, who handles high-profile medical malpractice lawsuits.
Police have not said what caused Holder to allegedly stab a nurse while getting treatment at Sky Ridge Medical Center last week.
The physician quickly posted $200,000 bond on charges of attempted murder, but he wasn't home when we went to his lavish Lakewood home.
The lawsuit against Holder includes damages caused to DeGuire and his wife in their relationship and alleges other employees of Harvard Park Medical Associates should have noticed Holder's behavior and kept him away from patients.
"A lot of it falls at the feet of his co-workers and partners," said Mahoney.
Holder's criminal attorney called FOX31 to say the doctor wouldn't be making any comment about the criminal case and had yet to see the lawsuit.
