COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The remains of a Colorado man who was missing after a 7.0 magnitude quake hit Haiti last month have been recovered from a Port-au-Prince hotel.

The remains of David Hames, a missionary with Colorado Springs-based Compassion International, were found in the lobby of the Hotel Montana, the U.S. State Department confirmed Tuesday.

Hames was at the hotel for a dinner when the quake hit and a concrete ceiling collapsed on him and eight colleagues. Dan Wooley and Jim Gulley, also with Compassion International, miraculously survived.

"David was an invaluable contractor at Compassion and was known and loved by many of our Compassion staff," the group said in a statement Tuesday.

"He believed strongly in the mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus' name and he was passionate about his work. Our thoughts, prayers and support are with David's loving wife, Renee, their two young children and the countless number of people who loved and respected him."
