GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Authorities say a Grand Junction police officer was in jail Friday after being arrested in a sexual assault and burglary investigation.
Police identified the officer as 35-year-old Glenn Coyne. He was arrested by Mesa County Sheriff's deputies Thursday night for an incident that allegedly happened in the predawn hours Tuesday.
Officials said Coyne was fired from the police department during a face-to-face meeting at the Jail Thursday night.
Interim Grand Junction Police Chief John Camper said Coyne was among a group of officers who were dispatched to a home Sunday night, according to a report in The Daily Sentinel. Coyne's accuser had called for assistance on a family matter.
Camper told the newspaper the woman called Coyne and asked him for additional help Monday. He had apparently left a contact phone number with her after handling the call Sunday.
Camper said after his shift ended at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday, Coyne allegedly went to the home again and sexually assaulted the woman.
Police scheduled a news conference for Friday to discuss the case, which is being handled by the Mesa County Sheriff's office.
