Fireworks fail at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on 4th of July
COMMERCE CITY - With 20,000 people packed into Dick's Sporting Goods Park for a Colorado Rapids game, what was supposed to be one of the best fireworks shows in the state, turned out to be a big dud. System-wide electrical problems crashed the show's fireworks firing system.

Commerce city Mayor Paul Natale said," The computer wasn't setting them off anymore, so we had a safety issue at that point because we didn't know when the shells would go off and the last thing we wanted to do was get anyone hurt."

He decided to stop the show, after only 20 percent of the fireworks had gone off.

"We were disappointed," said William Mendes who spent $120 to take his family to the event. "We actually bought the tickets just for the fireworks," said Mendes.

The show has been rescheduled for July 25th after the Colorado Rapids game against the New York Red Bulls.

"As partners, the Rapids and Commerce City truly regret that we weren't able to provide the quality of fireworks show that our fans and our neighbors here deserve and have come to expect from us on Independence Day," said Jeff Plush, Managing Director of the Colorado Rapids. "We invite all Rapids fans and residents of Commerce City to rejoin us on July 25 and allow us to give them the kind of show that they deserve."

Fans holding tickets from the Rapids game on July 4 are asked to call the Dick's Sporting Goods Park Guest Relations Hotline on Monday at 303-727-3748 for details on attending the July 25 game.
