GOLDEN, Colo. -
The driver of a car died after he crashed into the back of an empty casino bus Thursday morning.
The crash closed westbound 6th Avenue at Indiana Street in Golden during the overnight hours while state troopers investigated the scene.
Sgt. Michael Gartner of the Colorado State Patrol said the driver of a green BMW sedan slammed into the back of an empty CTI casino bus, which was heading west on 6th Avenue in the middle lane to Golden. This happened at about 1:15 a.m.
Gartner says the bus was traveling normally when the car hit it. The driver of the car was killed. The driver of the casino bus was not hurt.
Investigators say alcohol and speed were contributing factors in the crash. The highway was wet at the time, but they do not believe that played a part in the crash.
