"Having an effective teacher in the classroom is what's going to make a difference for Denver students," said Kate Brenan. Right now in DPS only half of students graduate from high school.

This program hopes strong teachers with life experience will help change that. Plus there are benefits for the fellows. They can jump right into the classroom. They can teach with full salary and benefits while they get their teaching certification.

The program is looking for people who can teach math, special education or bilingual elementary school.

Clay Jessen made the change. The engineer traded in his cubicle at Hewlett Packard, for the classroom at Kunsmiller. "It's just so rewarding," Jessen said.
