DENVER - Fire destroyed a Dollar City store in northwest Denver Monday just a few months after the same thing happened at a Family Dollar store across the street.

Monday's fire happened at the store at 48th and Pecos. Firefighters say when they arrived at about 2:45 a.m. there were flames and smoke shooting from the inside of the building.

They battled the fire from the outside of the building, because the roof was to unsafe for them. The roof and many walls eventually collapsed.

Firefighters were still putting out hot spots at 6:00 a.m. Monday. Thirteen units responded to the scene.

Investigators did not indicate there was a connection between this fire, and one at the Family Dollar in March. They did say the most recent fire appeared to start inside the store, while the one at the Family Dollar started outside the building.
