Deer visits auto repair shop

A deer surprised workers when it showed up at Auto Trim Specialists on east Evans Ave. near I-25 in Denver (November 11, 2009)

DENVER - Workers at an auto repair shop in south Denver were surprised to find that one of their visitors Wednesday morning happened to be a large deer.

Employees of Auto Trim Specialists at 4771 East Evans Ave. noticed the deer in their parking lot at about 9:30 a.m. Ernest Gonzalez, an employee at the business, said the deer just walked into the company's fenced lot.

"We decided...let's close the gate so he doesn't get hurt," Gonzalez said. Employees then called state wildlife experts.

Gonzales said they were reluctant to set the animal free because the business is on Evans Avenue, a pretty busy street, and Interstate 25 was just a block and a half away.

The employees didn't want the deer to get hit by a car and killed, or for anyone else to get injured.

Unfortunately, the deer may have stood a better chance on its own. Agents from the Colorado Division of Wildlife showed up and euthanized the animal after determining it was too injured to be safely relocated.
