CSAP test error could have big impact on Adams County schools
ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. - Adams County School District 12 Five Star usually finishes among the top rankings for state CSAP scores, but what everyone is calling a big mistake is going to have a big impact on the district's overall scores.

With about 5,000 students scattered around the state, the Colorado Virtual Academy is the largest online school in Colorado. When Colorado Virtual Academy students take the CSAP tests, they travel to one of about 30 locations up to 100 miles away and this may have lead to students from different grades being tested together.

"We tested more than one grade level in a single classroom, so that was the reason for the mis-administration," said Heidi Heineke-Magri of the Colorado Virtual Academy

That means about 6,000 tests will be thrown out or given zeroes, and that will pull down the overall scores for the Virtual Academy and Adams District 12 where they charted.

"When you have a mistake of this and that many zeros factored into the calculations it can create the possibility of people perceiving that as a district we're not doing well and that we're lagging behind, we're falling behind, it's certainly not the case," said Chris Dowski, Superintendent of Adams County School District.

"We deeply regret that this did happen in the first place we still maintain that the integrity of the test was not lost," said Heineke-Magri.
