LITTLETON, Colo. - Fireworks are likely to blame for small grass fire that broke out near Chatfield State Park, authorities said.

The fire, which was first reported at about 5 p.m., burned roughly three acres of brush along South Wadsworth Blvd., just south of C-470.

"The burned area is about the size of three football fields," said Littleton Fire division chief Doug Ireland.

Smoke was visible from several miles away.

No homes were threatened and no evacuations were ordered. The nearest homes were located in the Trail Mark subdivision.

The fire was declared under control around 5:30 p.m.

"The moisture that we've had has made everything grow. And now, over the next few days when it gets hotter and drier, then it will actually be a bit more dangerous," said Litleton Fire Battalion Chief John Easton. "It puts us more on-guard."
