Castle Rock signage rules under fire
CASTLE ROCK, Colo. - Sign restrictions in a new part of Castle Rock, just east of I-25 on Founders Parkway, are causing economic woes for restaurant owners that sit back from the roadway.

You can see all of the fast-food shops with signage on their buildings and on land that is between their shops and the parkway, but for the businesses that are behind the fast-food row, they are barred from putting up signage to let folks know where they are located.

"I need signs, but it seems we are caught in some sort of old v.s new battle in the 'Rock'," said Joe Troncalli.

"I am loosing money hand over fist because the city won't allow me to let folks know I am here. We have been here about 13 months but I have had to lay workers off, and now I am working like 14 hours a day. I do the cooking, the hosting, dish washing and everything else along with a handful of those we have been able to keep on payroll."

Troncalli says when he hires sign-twirlers at $30 an hour tables fill us, but that three guys at ten bucks an hour--those costs add up.

Mayor Randy Reed says he understands the plight of owners like Toncalli, but says he is sure no one would come out to measure where his sandwich board signs are place, if he put them up. And he says that he hopes the business owners in the 'new' Rock will be able to work out issues with the Planning Department.

"We want to be business friendly for sure," said Reed. "But if he wants the monument-style signage that list all the shops in the strip anchored by a dog washing business, they need to work out deals with those on fast food row that border the Parkway."

One thing we can add is that the foodÂ… to die for!!!
