DENVER - Just a day after trading for Cleveland quarterback Brady Quinn, the Denver Broncos have released backup QB Chris Simms.
Simms, 29, played in two regular season games last year, most notably in Week 11 against San Diego when he was named the starting QB over an injured Kyle Orton.
He was benched after just three series.
Simms, the son of former New York Giants QB Phil Simms, was due to make $2.5 million next season.
Quinn was acquired Sunday from Cleveland in exchange for fullback Peyton Hillis, a 2011 sixth-round draft pick and a conditional pick in 2012.
