Broncos trying to break December curse in KC
DENVER, Colo. - The Kansas City Chiefs (3-8) are an interesting team right now.

They have the potential to hang with some of the best the NFL can offer (beat the Steelers, lost in OT to the Cowboys), and also have the potential of getting their doors blown off (80-21 aggregate in two losses to the Chargers, and 20 point loss to the Eagles). In essence, they're an unpredictable team, and that is what makes them most dangerous.

Getting out to a fast start against a team like the Chiefs is just as important as doing so against opponents like the Giants, Patriots, and Chargers. The Steelers allowed them an opening kickoff touchdown return, and wound up losing.

The Denver Broncos (7-4) need to come out with intensity, establish tempo, and dictate game play. If not, you better believe the Chiefs will make this one a game.

Adding to the Broncos concerns is the fact that this team, through the entirety of its history, just does not play well in Kansas City in the month of December. I went back through every single season in Broncos history, and found out that they are 2-16 all time against the Chiefs in Kansas City in the month of December. That includes the Lou Saban era, Red Miller era, John Elway era, Mike Shanahan era. Every era.

It defies explanation.

The only thing that I can convincingly say about that stat is: it's real.

Hence, the Broncos are battling not only the Chiefs, but history as well. If there's one thing we (re)learned about the Broncos by watching them Thanksgiving night, it's that they accept a challenge well.

Be sure, this game is a challenge.

Hence, I see the Broncos coming away with a surprisingly hard fought win. The winning margin won't be overwhelming, but at this time of year, a win is a win no matter who you play.

24-16, against an interesting team.
