Boulder may put the brakes on medical marijuana shops
BOULDER, Colo. - With marijuana shops sprouting up seemingly everywhere, the pot-friendly city of Boulder plans to discuss whether to enact a four-month freeze on applications for new dispensaries.

Several other municipalities across the state have already implemented a moratorium on licensing marijuana shops while they determine the best way to regulate them.

The Boulder City Council will take up the issue Tuesday evening.

Earlier this week, Pueblo approved a 90-day moratorium on licensing dispensaries. Silverthorne officials last week approved rules for dispensaries that say they can operate as long as they're not near schools, residential neighborhoods and public places.

Medical marijuana use was approved in Colorado in 2000 but it is up to local governments to set regulations for dispensaries.

Some cities, including Greeley, Broomfield and Thornton, have banned medical marijuana dispensaries outright.
