Blockbuster may close nearly 1,000 stores
DENVER - It's the story of 2 movie buffs. Eric Hughes is a loyal Blockbuster video store customer. Terry Smith couldn't care less. Yet both were outside the Blockbuster at Mississippi and Chambers talking movies.

Hughes just exited the store after returning one movie and renting another. Smith says with the Internet and places like McDonald's, he can't remember the last time he rented a movie at Blockbuster.

Both men were reflecting on the news that the popular rental movie/video game retailer may close hundreds of stores across the U.S., according to the Denver Business Journal.

The Journal cites a regulatory filing that Blockbuster Inc. could close up to 960 stores by the end of next year. No word which stores are slated for closure, although The Deuce/FOX31 did find a former location at Mississippi and Peoria, also in Aurora, now vacant. The store in University Hills near Colorado Boulevard and Yale Avenue is also gone.

Eric Hughes says he will stay with Blockbuster until the end. Terry Smith says the rental late fees forced him to take his business elsewhere.

The Blockbuster at Mississippi and Chambers is open for business. Hughes hopes that doesn't change anytime soon.
