DENVER—
Raun Kaufman says he did, and he went on to graduate from an Ivy League school. He is in Colorado this week talking to families about ways to improve the lives of people with autism.Kaufman says he was diagnosed with a severe case of autism. He says he couldn't speak, wouldn't look at his parents and he engaged in repetitive behaviors. But instead of institutionalizing him, his parents created a specialized program now known as Son-Rise, that he says changed his life.
By age five, he claims he had recovered.
Kaufman is now the CEO of the Autism Treatment Center of America and is traveling across the country telling his story. He will be speaking Wednesday night at the Green Mountain Vitamin Cottage in Lakewood at 7pm and at the Vitamin Cottage in Colorado Springs on North Academy at 6pm.
He offers families 9 strategies including the principles of Son-Rise, dietary changes and enzymes.
Betty Lehman, the executive director of the Autism Society of Colorado, says she would like to see more research on the effectiveness of the program.
