Homeland Security Sec. Janet Napolitano visits Denver (October 5, 2009)
DENVER -
Denver football legend John Elway stars in a new video that educates the public about how to spot a terrorist. A Denver-based education and awareness organization called The Cell made the videotape and released it Monday.
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano was also in Denver Monday to enlist the help of the general public in the fight against terrorism. Napolitano says the recent arrest of an alleged terrorist in Aurora shows it can be a threat anywhere, anytime.
Surveillance video showed Najibullah Zazi purchasing large amounts of chemicals at local beauty supply shops. U.S. Attorney Eric Holder says the chemicals could have been used to make explosives that could have killed "scores" of Americans.
An alert clerk questioned Zazi about the purchase and Napolitano says this demonstrates how we all can be the eyes and ears that help law enforcement detect and defeat terrorist threats.
The new videotape starring John Elway details the FBI's "8 Signs of Terrorism."
They are Surveillance, Elicitation, Tests of Security, Funding, Acquiring Supplies, Impersonations, Rehearsals and Deployment. The FBI says these are the kinds of things people can observe and report to local law enforcement.
