FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. - A man found dead inside an Adams County office building is not suspected of shooting the founder of a software design firm, officials said Thursday.
The incident happened around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday at Fowler Software Design at 84th and Elati Street.
When deputies first arrived on the scene they found a male, later identified as Rex Fowler, suffering from a gunshot wound, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said. He was transported to Denver Health Medical Center with "life-threatening wounds."
At the time, authorities believed the suspect was still in the building. Deputies established a parameter around the office complex. At approximately 12:55 a.m., SWAT team members entered the building and found the body of Thomas Ciancio who, according to the coroner, had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
Deputies say it appears Thomas Ciancio was the victim of a homicide and not the gunman, as authorities initially told the media.
Ciancio's profile on the social networking site, LinkedIn, lists him as the COO of Fowler Software Design. However, he does not appear on the company's web site.
Fowler was listed in critical condition Thursday.
Authorities are still trying to piece together the events leading up the shootings. They say no other people are believed to be involved.
