ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -
A Jefferson County investigator was injured Wednesday during a confrontation with an auto theft suspect in Englewood. The suspect was shot.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office the investigator and his partner were tracking a stolen truck with a LoJack auto location device. They spotted the truck at Sante Fe Dr. and Dartmouth Ave. and tried to contact the driver.
"My investigator saw the car, attempted to contact the driver in that car, and the car sped away dragging my deputy," said Public Information Officer Jim Shires. The investigator fired into the truck hitting the suspect in the back.
At last check, the investigator was in serious condition at Swedish Hospital. The suspect was taken to Denver Health Medical Center, and his passenger was taken into custody.
The 52-year old investigator is a 32-year veteran of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and had recently been assigned to the new Jefferson County Regional Auto Theft Task Force.
